LARA project wins Madrid Challenge of the European Satellite Navigation Competition, ESNC 2017

It is a great honour to announce that our Horizon2020 project LARA, won the Madrid Challenge of the European Satellite Navigation Competition, ESNC 2017. GeoImaging from Nicosia, coordinator and technology partner of LARA project together with SignalGeneriX from Limassol, a technology partner of the project, received the prestigious award on behalf of the LARA consortium. The ESNC Awards Ceremony took place November 7, 2017 in front of an international audience during the European Space Week 2017 in Tallinn, Estonia – in line with the Satellite Masters Conference & Horizon 2020 Space Info Day. LARA project at the “Researcher’s Night” event in Nicosia Cyprus

GeoImaging Ltd, coordinator of LARA project participated in the “Researcher’s Night” event held at the FILOXENIA International Conference Centre in Nicosia on the 30th of September 2016. From 17:00 until 24:00 students and adults visitors were informed on the project’s objectives and got in touch with state of the art technologies being implemented at the moment within LARA project. Highlight of the night was the LARA augmented reality demonstrator where visitors navigating through the camera of one of the tablets of the project, augmented underground grids on a fixed panel. The “Researcher’s Night” was an event organized by the Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) in collaboration with academic and research institutions as well as other organizations in Cyprus. LARA project meeting, system pilot and stakeholder seminar in Kozani, Greece

LARA project partners had the opportunity to test and assess the performance of the integrated LARA system in Thessaloniki and Kozani, Greece from the 14th to 21st of September 2016. After an intensive week calibrating and testing the individual modules as well as the entire system in the premises of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, LARA partners moved to the nearby city of Kozani, where they conducted the first pilot of the system in real-life conditions. LARA partners navigated to the area selected for the pilot and took measurements using the GNSS based system verifying the system’s accuracy as well as responsiveness to an urban area with given locations of buried assets such as water, sewerage and heating pipelines. More than 70 participants attended the ISPRS special session organized by the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the European Environmental Agency (EEA) and the H2020 project LARA, that took place Wednesday 13th of July 2016 within the framework of the ISPRS 2016 conference in Prague. The session focused on the need for more synergies of the various stakeholders on geospatial and land applications and services. During the one and a half hours session chaired by Stratos Stylianidis of GeoImaging Ltd and Hans Dufourmont of the European Environment Agency, five presentations took place putting emphasis on the added value of the combination, the synergies and complementarity of geolocation services and earth observation services. 23-26 May 2016, Geospatial World Forum 2016, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. LARA project, as an ongoing H2020 success project of producing equipment for construction surveyors that is Galileo enabled, was invited at the GSA workshop within the framework of the Geospatial World Forum 2016 that took on Tuesday, the 26th of May 2016. The purpose of the workshop, titled “Impact of Geospatial Information on Society and Economy” (link here) was to highlight the E-GNSS status, services and key features to the geospatial community, to stimulate the dialogue on the benefits of Galileo in geospatial applications, Galileo adoption at the equipment level and ultimately open the discussion on potential usage of Galileo Authentication feature. LARA project partners met in Limassol Cyprus on the 3rd and 4th of March 2016, to conduct their regular meeting which was combined with project evaluation for the first 12 project months. During the first day of the meeting on the 3rd of March the consortium reviewed progress and updated plans to launch the first operational system prototype. Moreover the current version of system (named LARA 0,5) integrating mostly hardware components was also put successfully into test proving a glimpse of the great potential the final system can have.
